HEC–HMS streamflows design rainfall events 1- 8-hour ranging 100- 0.2-percent probability. Flood-inundation for USGS stages 17.0 feet (ft), or near bankfull, 23.0 ft, stage exceeding interval flood, using HEC–RAS model. consequence each duration-frequency value represented by 1-ft increment inundation based on generated corresponding reference streamgage.Four developed model: (1) current (2016) land cover, normal antecedent soil-moisture conditions; (2) wet (3) future (4) condition estimated anticipated development basin. All input into four moisture conditions assigned flow streamgage.

Flood Forecasting and Inundation Mapping Using HiResFlood-UCI and Near-Real-Time Satellite Precipitation Data: The 2008 Iowa Flood

Floods are among the most devastating natural hazards in society. Flood forecasting is crucially important in order to provide warnings in time to protect people and properties from such disasters. This research applied the high-resolution coupled hydrologic–hydraulic model from the University of California, Irvine, named HiResFlood-UCI, to simulate the historical 2008 Iowa flood. HiResFlood-UC...

Authors' Accepted Manuscript Title: Importance of River Bank and Floodplain Slopes on the Accuracy of Flood Inundation Mapping

Effective flood assessment and management depend on accurate models of flood events, which in turn are strongly affected by the quality of digital elevation models (DEMs). In this study, HEC-RAS was used to route one specific water discharge through the main channel of the Eskilstuna River, Sweden. DEMs with various resolutions and accuracies were used to model the inundation. The results showe...

Modeling Flood Inundation Induced by River Flow and Storm Surges over a River Basin

Low-lying coastal regions and their populations are at risk during storm surge events and high freshwater discharges from upriver. An integrated storm surge and flood inundation modeling system was used to simulate storm surge and inundation in the Tsengwen River basin and the adjacent coastal area in southern Taiwan. A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model with an unstructured grid was used, wh...

Probabilistic flood hydrographs using Monte Carlo simulation: potential impact to flood inundation mapping

Flood inundation modelling generally involves two steps. The first involves the use of a hydrologic model, such as RORB, to estimate the design flood hydrograph for a given design storm event. These models require several inputs, such as design rainfalls (i.e. duration, intensity & temporal pattern), losses, baseflow and routing parameters; each of which has an associated degree of uncertainty ...

Sustainability-Based Flood Hazard Mapping of the Swannanoa River Watershed

An integrated framework is presented for sustainability-based flood hazard mapping of the Swannanoa River watershed in the state of North Carolina, U.S. The framework uses a hydrologic model for rainfall–runoff transformation, a two-dimensional unsteady hydraulic model flood simulation and a GIS-based multi-criteria decision-making technique for flood hazard mapping. Economic, social, and envir...
